Shabbat Shel Shalom watercolor artwork by Dar-Ya Naomi with Hebrew lettering, sea, mountains, and rocks

About

Shabbat Shel Shalom is part of Israeli artist Dar-Ya Naomi's exploration of prayer, spirituality, and the ways faith can hold us through uncertain moments.

Inspired by solitary Shabbatot spent on the beaches of Eilat in the months after October 7, the watercolor balances a heavy rock against open water, distant mountains, and an expansive sky. Hebrew lettering forms Shabbat Shalom, while the word shel, meaning “of,” emerges within the setting sun.

The piece holds two feelings at once: the loneliness of those early days and the quiet peace Dar-Ya found in returning, week after week, to the rhythm of Shabbat.
